The Holocaust Educational Foundation awards each March TWO $5000 fellowships and TWO $2500 fellowships in Holocaust Studies, tenable during the ensuing academic year.
The awards are open to faculty members and ABD graduate students at North American colleges or universities. All academic disciplines are eligible. Proposals may request support for any stage of a research project, from initial field work to write-up or publication of results, but must be specific as to purpose, e.g., travel support, the purchase of released time from teaching, the acquisition of essential source material, etc. The Selection Committee hopes in each year to make two awards to individuals who have a Ph.D. degree (i.e., current faculty, postdocs, and independent scholars) and two awards to current graduate students, providing that the distribution of high quality applications so permits.
The annual deadline for completed applications is January 31. A completed application consists of the following:
- from the applicant: a letter of application specifying the research topic, the dollar amount being sought, and the purpose and preferred time period of the award; a three-to-five page project description; and a curriculum vitae.
- from TWO referees (including the dissertation advisor in the cases of graduate students): an evaluation of the applicant's proposal and promise.
If submitted electronically, ONE COPY of each of these documents should be sent to the Foundation at hef3@aol.com. If submitted in writing, SIX COPIES of each document should be sent to:
